How many more conferences about blogging can we realistically have? We’ve saturated everybody we needed to, we can sit back and let gigantic evil corporations force our parents and grandparents into it from now on. It is just the net now guys, just an extension of humans behind computers, and it isn’t about what “the blogosphere” says, it is about what the people behind computers say, so give us names that are applicable to our groupings like “cheaply-bought evangelists,” “desperate political attention-grabbers,” “bandwagoneers” and “socially inept twenty-somethings.” web 2.0 : See “bandwagoneers” and “cheaply bought evangelists” above. Somehow hearing this phrase has become synonymous with listening to a company spokesperson attempting to “build a community” with me while raping all the software and projects I love in an attempt to convince people that they are open. I understand the urges to have buzzwords in every possible sentence you utter to me, but have some dignity because we see right through you. If you want to impress me, here are some buzzwords you can try out: “context-free grammar,” “naked women,” “python,” and “can I get you a beer?” attention owner : Okay, so I don’t ever actually hear this one, likely because I immediately attempt to find something else to do if somebody mentions anything that sounds like it could lead into a conversation about how important it is that their attention be justified, but it is so self-aggrandizing and empty that I hope it never has to reach my ears. The "blackout" on this page that started on the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death, is not a mistake or a hacker's plot, it is one reaction to what we feel is a lack of real attention being paid to the current global condition. We're tired of beating around the bush, being too nice and missing the point. Music is just one piece of a puzzle leading to a better world, an art form that can bring out our hidden selves, make us lose our inhibitions and cut to the truth. Consider this story: We were all at this music industry party, various big-wigs and small-wigs from all over the country were in attendance, it was thrown by one guy who was getting to be a big deal at a prestigious label, and everyone was kissing everyone's ass. (the no nonsense "ass-kissing-as-an-art-form" sort of ass kissing. Finally at the end of the night when most everyone had gone, a song came on the stereo while we were sitting around with this "getting to be a big deal" guy and his pucker from kissing ass turned into a smile. For 30 seconds he wasn't trying to schmooze us, wasn't trying to prove how cool he was, he was finally being honest with us and himself, and the only thing that had changed was paying attention to the music. This is great, yet simultaneously infuriating. What we've learned over the years is that to get affection from those in power, you have to be an ass. And this is the prime reason why the starving starve and the oppressed suffer. They're just trying to live. They are trying to listen to the music. That is just an example and the music industry is just one part, and an exceedingly insignificant part compared to war, starvation or natural disaster. But if civilization collapsed tomorrow and the world, as we know it, was to end, there would still be music. If the first part is paying attention to music, the rest is paying attention to theworld. Maybe not personally really, though St. Louis shows with you guys are the best, and Warped Tour was RIDICULOUSLY amazing at the LOU, but this page. Your music. I swear. I am in love all over again. The first time I saw J-Rise was 28 June 2004 with Ludo, Anything But Joey, and Psycho Dad. I think at the show you all saw a man being beaten by a policeman. One of you said "Lets take all the negative energy from the outside world, lets take it all and turn into something good. Something good-right here." Or pretty much something that that effect. I have taken those words and have flown. With so much injustice, anger, hatred, everything in the world, music has been such an incredible outlet. Some use it as an escape and some use it as a way to fight back. I use them for both. Music is INCREDIBLE for the power it has. Your Myspace page says it well enough. The songs you guys are putting out are incredible and absolutely breathtaking. And you guys...as cliche as this sounds...get it.
