Who cares what MySpace is like? It is interesting that the site is blocking mentions of another site from it. then again, what do you expect? The Google norm established that word of mouth is an extremely powerful way to market yourself online - sites that try to curb word-of-mouth advertising amongst their users of competitor sites make sense - to a degree. The question is how the MySpace community will react to this. posted by Gabbahead (0) at 03:27 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] It's still quite poor form. On the other hand, I get an uneasy feeling when I hear things like this. This isn't exactly limiting advertising for a competitor, this is stifling free speech. I sincerely doubt that many MySpace elites (not my good taste in not saying 133t) will be constantly singing the praises of YouTube. And, where does it end? Yahoo360 is potentially dangerous. Do we construct an enemies list? Sure, they own the site, so they can do what they want. Wait... you mean they can't show child pornography? Oh, so there are limits? Like the punchline to the old joke goes, "We already know what kind of girl you are, now we're just haggling over price." What is cool about this sort of thing is how it always seems to backfire. Everyone seems scared that MySpace is going to change. I'm not leaving, and I'm still making the decisions about the site, and I'm not going to let things suck. I think that it is free advertising for the network shows or for the independent videographer. Fox should embrace it and try to find a way to make it work for them. It's those who think it's ok for companies to censor whatever they want, vs those that think that it's a low blow to free speech for companies to act like MySpace. MySpace is essentially using censorship to create a mini monopoly - it's anti-progress. When it comes to the internet many people feel that it should be uncensored as much as possible, so you can see how some people would be concerned at reading this. Maybe Google should start censoring all links that point to Yahoo. posted by merm (0) at 05:14 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] Hmmmmm do you think Brad Greenspan and vidilife.com have something to do with this? http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_52/b3965027.htm?campaign_id=hp_views&campaign_creative=Ronald%20Grover posted by definitiveturbo (0) at 05:29 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] "MySpace has been my life for almost two years now. It's also unusual in that this is an overzealous look at the content and nature of utilizing other sites from a blog. This isn't abuse prevention, it's an affiliation game played outside of the purview of the user. It would be somewhat vaguely similar to digg.com replacing submitted links with similar links to affiliated sites, or simply breaking them entirely because the target isn't a friend of digg. It has remarkably little to do with whether you like MySpace, or whether you personally care about MySpace (I sure don't), nor whether MySpace should be forced to change its policy, or any other sort of nonsense. No one expects Blogger or LiveJournal or any other personal website service to disappear their links, and that MySpace does is noteworthy. If you don't "care" enough to post some sort of semi-coherent response to the effect of "go outside," might I suggest that you just take your own advice rather than sharing it so avidly? posted by lolbbq (0) at 05:42 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] Turn over his IP and let digg users attack this spam userr PLEASE posted by IBSwithmyPPTP (0) at 06:14 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] hey, does blog spot have a link spamming policy? guess we will find out. posted by spamdies (0) at 06:28 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] i have gotten plenty of poontang from myspace, after all MYSPACE IS YOURSPACE! posted by blackpanther989 (0) at 06:30 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] damn, i wish i knew how to do that. ^ @ all myspace bashes there are millions of millions of mySpacers out there and there's a good chance that most of you teenage guys in high-school have a myspace, agreed I have one to but i don't hate it. I'd start posting photos of myself holding a sign stating, "For a good time, go to www.youtube.com" posted by AkiraXXX (0) at 03:59 AM 12/23/05 score: -- +3 Excellent +2 Insightful +1 Useful Rate Comment -1 Off Topic -2 Flame -3 SPAM [block/report] you cant put videos on my space. why cant they just cooperate. you-tube is used for videos my space is used for pics and words. This is what Tom Anderson told us Myspace users after FoxNews purchased a portion of MySpace point 3 and 4 should cover youtube content "Many of you have asked about NewsCorp buying MySpace.... Everyone seems scared that MySpace is going to change. I'm not leaving, and I'm still making the decisions about the site, and I'm not going to let things suck. "The rumors people are reposting in bulletins are not true: 1) We are not going to become a pay site. 2) We are not increasing advertising. 3) We are not allowing anyone to monitor the site. 4) We are not deleting any content or censoring people in any new way. (we've always deleted nude pics and hate speech) 5) We are not exploiting anyone's data or violating anyone's privacy. "MySpace has been my life for almost two years now. I know it's as important to others as it is to me. I won't let it get jacked up." YouTube is not a blog site it is a way to spread media around the net. I think that it is free advertising for the network shows or for the independent videographer. Fox should embrace it and try to find a way to make it work for them. The clips are not being served from MySpace so I don't see where the bandwidth issue comes up...If people are posting clips on MySpace and people are watching them that means that people are spending more time on Myspace which is good for them.
