Timing July 26, 2005 95% of the time, the calls I take from Clients are pleasant and witout issue. But it's the other 5% that's going to kill me. Like today, for instance. I still don't get people who wait until the 11th hour to make arrangements for things. Here we are the 26th of July and I just took a call for the 27th of August. THE 27TH OF AUGUST! And it's a wedding - not some imromptu business function or family gathering. This is a wedding that's been in the planning since February. FEBRUARY. But they just thought, "It would be no problem since it's an entire month away..." Now, when you're waiting for a vacation or for your birthday or something like the Semi-Annual sale at Nordsrtom, you can say things like, "It's an ENTIRE month until I finally get to go on vacation!" or "I have an ENTIRE month to wait until I can get those Cole Haan boots I've had my eyes on." But when it's something like sceduling a caterer - the person who's going to actually make your reception fabulous, you are only entitled to say, "It's ONLY a month away. I need to get my shit together!" Who does this? What kind of moron sits back and says, "Well, all we have left is to make sure we have food to eat..." COME ON! So of course I had to say, "No, I am sorry. We are booked " , and give the lady advice on where to turn, next. All the while she's just freaking out at the prospect that it might, in fact, be too damn late. What I wanted to say was, "Just get back on The Stupid Train, Lady. Because the next stop is Get A Clue Town!" And no - maturity is not my middle name. Posted by Foodwhore at July 26, 2005 02:50 PM Aren't those the people that usually end up drafting family help to slice cold cuts and dip petit fours the night before the wedding? (yes, I've been the family help... inlaws, what can you do about them?) Posted by: Alida at July 26, 2005 03:33 PM My wedding is on Saturday - is it too late to book you? :) Posted by: Swankette at July 26, 2005 04:03 PM This is America, remember. Trump came back in no time, Rachel Ray can do it in 30 minutes and for 40 dollars. Probably not :-) Posted by: Cheri at July 27, 2005 08:46 PM Well, I'm sure they spent the last 5 months deciding reception details that were far more important than the meal they'd be serving...like coming up with the color scheme for the balloon arch. Our boys have occupied carriage of "Moscow-Kaliningrad train" -- said voice."They just called by mobile-phone from that carriage. From lituanian rail-way station Kena, on the border." "Who they are?" asked I. "Collected team from Moscow, Saint-Petersbourgh, Omsk, Nijni Novgorod, Briansk, Tula and Orenbourgh, also Tcheboksari. Sixteen camarades. They have chained themselves to a metal frames of carriage, then they teared to pieces lituanian transit visas. 'We are going from Russia to Russia. We don't need visas,' -- they said to lituanian frontier guards. They also blocked the locks by injecting a glue in them."'About the same time participants of action giving an interviews to radio "Eco of Moscow". "Action oriented to get attention of Russians and Lituanians to the problem and to attain a right of access to Kaliningrad without visas, We believe that transit visas for Russian citizens are humiliation. We belive that visas are the first step in process of isolation of Kaliningrad region for eventual taking over of that territory, for separation it from Russia." Same day. 12.10. The carriage N2 unhooked from "Moscow -- Kaliningrad" train. Lituanian special police force, armed with automatic rifles, is preparing to storm Russian carriage. By mobile phone National Bolsheviks raporting, "Here are all special police forces of Lituania!" 12.35. Special police force have started a storm what was lasting more than 30 minutes. 13.05. Last message come frome inside of carriage, from Roman Popkov. "That is end of it. They are breaking the door of a last compartment." 16.15. Same day. More then one hundred National Bolsheviks have staged a meeting in front of Lituanian Embassy in Moscow. They chant: "Kaliningrad is Russian city!" "Freedom to political prisoners!" "We are demanding a free corridor!" National Bolsheviks have leaved an address to Lituanian ambassador with demand to free sixteen camarades detained on rail-way station Kena. 18.11. Needless to say that Aschotov was lieing. National-Bolsheviks Party cannot participate at Election of State Duma, because Putin's Ministry of Justice refusing to register NBP. September 16. The Court of Wilnuss, capital of Lituania, announced its decision to arrest 16 "Limononvets" for 14 days, - until investigation of train occupation will ended. National -- Bolsheviks been transferred to Wilnuss, to a prison "Lukishkes." That very day Sergei Iliukhin celebrating his 18th birthday. In prison. Cameraman of NTV Alexei Zolotov, detained together with National-Bolsheviks was fined to 300 lites (about 3,000 rubles) and deported from Lituania. "He breaked a rule of regime of frontier territory, when he filmed an action of protest by National -- Bolsheviks Party in train "Moscow -- Kaliningrad", said Court of Wilnuss. His camera and casset with a filmed material was detained by the Court. Zolotov filmed beatings of National -- Bolshewiks by lituanian police during their arrest, so no wonder that his camera was ceased. September 17, Russian consul in Lituania Azamat Ablaev have visited each of detained National -- Bolshewiks. Alexei Zolotov arrived at Moscow. At 19 hours News at NTV reportage about Sunday action of National -- Bolshewiks was a first news.September 18. At prison Lukishkes in Wilnuss National -- Bolshewik Andrei Yanushkin celebrated his 17th birthday. Andrei is National -- Bolshewik from Orenburgh. September 19. Wilnuss Court have started hearings. The hall of Court was crowded by 16 accused, 13 lawyers, two prosecutors, two translators, as well as two representatives of Russian Embassy in Lituania, and Lituanian journalists. Our camarades were driven in by three "Land Rovers" of lituanian border police. The juge Victoras Dovidaitis have read to accused their rights, and prosecutor have explained his criminal charge. According to him National -- Bolshewiks have throwed leaflets, disturbed the fonctions of lituanian authorities, have used dirty words and by all this have breaked public order. Afterwords juge have started to ask each accused if he understand an accusation and have he or she (it was two girls between accused) to confess his guilt. Nobody have recognized his guilt. Cross-examination of witnesses have proved that National -- Bolshewiks have not pronounced insulting words or dirty words addressing lituanian state, or lituanian authorities. The olny non-literary words prononced were: "Hands up, blia!" screamings of lituanian special police members during storm of carriage. The examination of video-materials confirmed: it was no insults. Court also didn't find that breaking public orders were serious: National -- Bolshewiks were not resisted, and rail-way traffic was interrupted only for 1 hour 40 minutes. Nevertheless prosecutor demanded to underaged participants of action a penalty of 40 days in prison and for adult participants up to 70 days of imprisonment. National -- Bolshewiks met these demands, smiling happily. Because they sounded unsignificant if compared with sentenced given for similar actions in Latvia: 6, 5 and 1 years of prison, or even compared with Sebastapol's action, were 15 National -- Bolshewiks have spended in Ukrainian prison six months. September 25. 12.00. At Malii Zal of State Duma press conference of E. Limonov and deputy of State Duma Victor Alksnis "From Russia to Russia without Visa." September 25. About 15 hours. Wilnuss court have sentence under-aged National -- Bolshewiks to 20 days of imprisonment, and adults to 40 days of imprisonment each. Happy end for a Party who counted ten political prisoners on September 14. But the very next day, on September 26, Belgorod's Court have sentenced Anna Petrrenko, the leader of National -- Bolshewik's of Belgorods region to three years of imprisonment. She was arrested immediately. Her child was taken away and placed to Social help organization. Three years for a young woman, it's sad. p.s. For those readers of "Exile" who are only "straight intestine" ["priamaya Kishka"] National bolshewiks and their activities are, of course, irritating. But I write for other type of Exile readers, I am sure they are numerous, for those who take life painfully serious. For those, who believe in death. Om Malik on Broadband : » Why Murdoch Really Bought MySpace? Om Malik's Blog About the next generation internet. About Contact Advertise Feed Widget Why Murdoch Really Bought MySpace? Posted in Broadband Life + Readers Writeback He is planning to create a competitor to MTV. Much like Viacom’s CBS decided to use the broadband web to bypass cable and compete against the 24-hour news networks like CNN and FoxNews. Guest Post by Robert Young There has been much speculation and analyses as to why Rupert Murdoch acquired MySpace. The prevailing consensus seems to be that News Corp’s motivation was to buy ad inventory targeted at the social network’s valuable young demographic (e.g. see John Battelle’s comments .) That’s overtly simplistic. Moreover, it’s very difficult to justify a $580 million cash payment on that basis alone. Although ad inventory was surely part of the equation, I believe there is larger strategic reason that motivated Murdoch to make such a bold move: He is planning to create a competitor to MTV. Much like Viacom’s CBS decided to use the broadband web to bypass cable and compete against the 24-hour news networks like CNN and FoxNews (see PaidContent’s coverage here ), the acquisition of MySpace positions Murdoch to challenge the dominance of MTV in their category. I’m willing to bet that he will go even further by eventually extending the MySpace brand to include a dedicated cable & satellite network/channel. He is after all an old media guy . In fact, just a couple of weeks before News Corp. announced the deal, we all witnessed the web’s potential in this context when AOL’s webcasting audience for Live 8 outreached MTV and ABC’s ratings of the same event ( details here .) Such a data point can go a long way towards justifying a $580 million price tag. In addition to live concerts, MySpace is an ideal platform to release music videos (which the major record labels are desperately trying to monetize), as well as other short-form reality programming (think Fox’s “American Idol”) that’s likely to attract the 22 million youngsters in the MySpace community… an audience that happens to also watch MTV. No matter what you may think of Rupert Murdoch, he never overpays and you can’t underestimate his brilliance. After all, he challenged the 3 major TV broadcast networks by creating Fox, then he challenged CNN by launching FoxNews, and he’s currently revamping FX with a slate of edgy original programming to go against HBO. I believe he’s now going after MTV, and if indeed that was his reason for buying MySpace, not only was it another brilliant move by the media mogul, but the price he paid was a bargain. Robert Young is a serial entrepreneur who’s currently focused on Weed (www.weedshare.com), a digital music service and P2P superdistribution pioneer. During Internet 1.0, he orchestrated the sale of Delphi Internet Services to Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. Posted on August 6th, 2005 — 20 Comments so far If this is the case, which does make sense, the new entity needs a different name. “MySpace” is a terrible name, especially if there is to be a cable channel in the works. First, I would argue that you have to look at the acquisition of MySpace of indicative of how deeply Murdoch gets the importance of user-generated content as a generational macro trend. Social networking as a trend bucket is as much a reflection of consumers really enjoying pimping themselves up through customization and personalization and building affinity networks around that process, as it is about “collecting friends.” Two, I believe that Murdoch gets that when you marry user generated engagement with rich media, you have a model for lock in and leverage since users increasingly have a common reference point for maintaining conversations and communal connections with their peers, which becomes a defensible “space” since it is so context-bound. Now Reuters’ is reporting that he is considering a similar move in the US. “Here (in the United States), we don’t know,” Murdoch told the newspaper. “We may be forming a company with partners to build something out here that would give you broadband.” […] Om Malik’s Broadband Blog — » Murdoch’s Broadband Plans at November 7th, 2005 at 10:53 PM — Permalink […] In this nice little talk about blogs, and power of the community, there is the underlying truth: its about the advertising. The ad-dollars shifting away from traditional forms of media to newer mediums, it behooves News Corp to adapt. (That is precisely the reason I firmly believe that AOL should remain part of Time Warner, despite losing 300 users an hour, and if necessary, selling a piece to Comcast and getting some broadband traction is the best option for TW, than say teeming up with others seeking short term page view pop!) Anyone can buy what they want, shop where they want, talk to anybody in the world that they want (and) state their own opinions. There’s no mystery to a blog: Put up your thoughts (and) find friends….there are lots and lots of communities, and they can all blog — they can all write in a personal diary every week, or whatever they want. There are three very large Internet companies: America Online, which delivers data, which is really what’s keeping them very strong; everyone in the world goes to Yahoo! to do their e-mail, and search with Google. I think online, it’s the search for groupings, identifying search for groupings and providing sites for that — to meet, talk, discuss. These are very interesting; there are huge numbers of people. (We’re going to be) learning a lot about them and then selling advertising to them. Not too obtrusively, but when you target, there’s no waste: 50,000 people over here or 5 million people over there. Here are some random shots from my recent portfolio over the past year or so.Feel free to leave me a comment on any of these pics! Music Far East Movement is definitely a group that I've seen grow immensely since meeting the band members kev nish, j-spliff, & prohgress a few years back. Could you please drop some support by visiting their page when you have the opportunity by clicking here ? As Asian American artists, I believe that FM is taking the proper steps to become the next big thang. They just released an Audio Biography that you could purchase from aznraps.com , and I highly recommend it, simply because proceeds will aid the Southeast Asia Tsunami Victims via Red Cross. Another album that I'm really diggin' right now is titled Half Step Down by Ken Oak . Ken can also be found on MySpace, and you can find his page simply by clicking here . Ken's music classifies as Pop/Acoustic/Rock, so you get a whole mix of sounds that compliment each other very well. The blend of his music and vocals will surprise you, and it's no wonder that his album is selling like hotcakes! Get yours now before they sell out! Either via CDbaby.com or amazon.com . Don't say I never told ya! I'm also a Karaoke NUT! You could often find me at any Karaoke Room in Ktown or Cerritos! I also play a couple of instruments, including the saxophone, which I believe produces one of the sexiest sounds in the world! As you can probably tell by now, music definitely means a LOT to me. Movies Some of my favorite movies of all time include: American Beauty The Matrix The Shawshank Redemption The Usual Suspects Television TV? Now why would anyone want to waste their time watching TV? Okay okay, on the real, I'm REALLY addicted to two shows. One of them is "Lost" , which I can't get enough of... The other is "Nip/Tuck" , which I have yet to catch up on the past 2 seasons... But it's interesting to see the story unfold. And I know who the Carver is. :) Oh, and I guess the only TV-related question that I have is this: If MTV stands for Music Television, why is only a small portion of the day REALLY about music? How do reality shows have anything to do with music? Misleading. MTV is such the branded whore of America's teens. But I DO love Viva La Bam. Sue me. Books I don't really read BOOKS anymore, and you probably don't either, simply because there's SO much stuff you can find on the internet... Gah, I can't remember the last time I picked up a book, even! Heroes My number one Lord & Savior, for helping me to accept the things that I cannot change. The One who forgives me of my sinful ways day in and day out and continues to love me as I continue to grow. I hope that one day, I'll be able to approach his open arms and whisper in his ear "Thank you, Father, for keeping me safe and guiding me here." Now in no way am I a Bible thumper, but I do have my faith, and if you question it, or doubt it, or mock it, for that matter, I'm not one to judge, as you will have judged me... I know that my life did not end up here by just a touch of magic or by pure luck or coincidence. God has been showing me not just the path, but the exact steps that I needed to get where I'm at today. My daddy is better than your daddy. =) Also, my modern day heroes list consists of any and all Asian Americans making a stand, not as an individual, but as a whole and representative of the AA community. Ones whose passion is determined by that desire to make a stand against the stereotypes of being a minority in this vast melting pot of opportunity. I love to be inspired. So with that, INSPIRE ME. My name is Joe, and I'm the owner of jO3Design.com and President of 2470 Studios . At jO3Design.com and 2470 Studios , you'll find that photography + design is not just a profession, but a way of life. And yes, you WILL find endless montages of mind-blowing and innovative reflections of artistic imagery and design. But not yet, cuz I'm still updating the page... I'm also employed by MySpace as a Web Designer, and MySpace is actually a HUGE part of my life. If you wanna know more about my testimony about MySpace, let me know what you wanna know, and I'll be sure to get back to you. =) More about me: I reside in Lakewood, CA, and am doing what I can to prove to myself that my life on this planet is not a wasted one. I've battled and overcome many hurdles and obstacles in life, and I'm a living example of what you could become if you set your mind to do something and achieve what you set out to do. I have no college degree, or a high-school diploma, for that matter, but I do work hard and get the task at hand finished. If you guys want a little secret on finding the true meaning of a successful life, follow these words that someone once told me: Do what you love, and love what you do. Who I'd like to meet: At this time, I'm open to corresponding with anyone and everyone who keeps it real and is down for themselves and the things that they do. But more importantly, if you're an aspiring model, actor/actress, designer, photographer, or anyone in the design/photography/entertainment industry, feel free to send me a message. I'm all about networking through the right connections, and I'd like to think that MySpace could be utilized to make proper connections. This doesn't mean I'm going to add you to my friends' list, as I like to keep that restricted to people that I do know in real life, so please do not be discouraged if I don't accept your friend request. As far as wanting to meet anyone famous goes, I'm going to be straight up with you: I'm not into getting all starry-eyed when I meet celebrities, because they're just people, too. You could be Britney Spears giving me a lap dance, for all I care. Honestly, Britney, I don't care about your lap dance. Because you're just another person to me. You, just like I, are someone's child. For you people out there, if you ever, and I repeat EVER pull that "I'm better than you" card out on me, you won't last long on my friends' list, let alone in life. If this previous sentence describes you, then don't even bother trying to add me. One thing that I am quite tired of, and I'm sure a lot of you will agree with me, is when people add me for the sole purpose of soliciting me and/or my friends, and promoting their pages/parties/pictures in my comments' section. Please, my profile is not an advertising board, and I would definitely like to keep it restricted to truthful comments/critique about me and/or my work. So some things that will get you booted from my friends' list: Don't ask me to hook you up with anyone on my list. Like I have magical powers that are going to make them fall in love with you, ESPECIALLY when I tell them that YOU wanted ME to hook YOU up, simple because you were too much of a wuss to approach them yourself. All I have to say about this? Closed mouths don't get fed. Think about it. Don't leave comments that will stretch out my page. I don't care if it's a picture of your breasts or ass. I have my profile designed to a certain width that I want it at, and I really don't want to have to delete your comment because you didn't read this sentence. So, just a fair warning now. Don't kill me later. Don't leave music embedded onto my profile. I have a song that I like currently playing in my profile, and I don't need anymore sound than that. And now, enjoy some of my favorite pieces over the span of my life as a photographer until spring of this year. I'll find more time to update from this summer to present as I find more time to do so.
