Still got 'em all... Influences Hmmm... Pretty much the history of loud rock, 1968-present. But mostly late 60's psych, early 70's hard rock and prog, late 70's punk, early 80's metal and post-punk, late 80's heavy rock (i.e. grunge) and late 90's heavy rock (i.e. stoner rock). On the other hand, there's the Art Bears, Socrates Drank The Conium, Van Der Graaf Generator, the Groundhogs and James Brown... OK, that probably didn't help much... Sounds Like No one else, hopefully. OK, it's loud. There are guitars. ( view more ) Still working in Brazil, home soon... ( view more ) [ View All Blog Entries ] About jack endino If you found me here, you probably know what I've been doing for the past 20 years (recording/producing a zillion bands in ten countries; playing in Skin Yard, Wellwater Conspiracy, Upwell, etc)... see jackendino.com for the gruesome details (ranting, production discography, photos, articles, "grunge," Seattle, Nirvana, etc). Still doing it, BTW... recent examples: The Beautiful Mothers, Black Halos, Makers, Upwell, Zeke, Jodi Hates The World, Dirty Power, etc... see friends list. But the whole point of me being here on MySpace is this: I recently finished my third solo record Permanent Fatal Error, and it's out now on Wondertaker Records of SF. I play guitar (lots) and sing, and wrote all the tunes. It is very loud. It took me ten years to make it. Why? Cuz it needed to be as good as the records I was making for other bands... and that set the bar pretty high. I wasn't going to settle for some bullshit vanity record. Drummers on it include Barrett Martin (formerly of Screaming Trees, Mad Season, Skin Yard), Josh Sinder (Accüsed, TAD, The Insurgence) and even myself on a few tunes. Bassists include Rob Skinner (Coffin Break, Earthworm), Alex Sibbald (Accüsed), Pat Pedersen (Skin Yard, Sister Psychic), and myself. Everyone played their asses off. (Thanks guys!) Reviews that are starting to trickle in have been pretty gratifying; people are definitely "getting it", one by one. Nope, no corporate promo money behind me, folks! We're talking 100% DIY indy rock here (which is the best kind). If you've reviewed it, written about it, or played it on college radio, you know who you are, and I hereby thank you for supporting indy rock. (If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to watch for an odd-looking package in your inbox from "Wondertaker.com, SF".) UPDATE: CD is now available at CDBaby.com! YOU could be the first one on your block (or in your country) to own this unrelenting slab. CDBaby takes credit cards and will ship world-wide. I'll also sell it to you from jackendino.com , along with all the Skin Yard records and my other solo CDs, but I only take PayPal. RECORD STORES: In US, order from IDC, Carrot Top or Lumberjack-Mordam. In Europe, Cargo and their affiliates are handling it. If you don't see it in your local indy store, ask for it, they can order it. Thanks for reading and listening! jack endino's Friend Space jack endino has 959 friends. Fortunately, the music on this self-titled release leaves little to question as any energy that is spent on debating the name is almost immediately shifted to the lower part of the body. Yes, the legs. Just to be sure, I checked with your doctor, and those appendages are OK to use while listening to indie music. Musically speaking, Dracula Zombie USA’s music is quite spastic and has the energy of a 3-year-old. Many of the songs on the album combine elements of dancey DJ-driven electronica, call-and-response punk, some arty noise-punk, and, of course, classic indie rock along the lines of the Pixies. The music is more than just a mash-up of different elements and a carbon copy of Mr. “Two Turn Tables and a Microphone” Beck. In fact, this is better than what any bedroom mashup “artist” could cut and paste together. ( continued ) You can access the rest of my reviews written at DOA here . Having de-holidized myself and getting my day to day routine back to normal, posts and the podcast will resume shortly. If anyone cares, here’s my top 10 of 2005. 1) A Northern Chorus – Bitter Hands Resign Lyrically, sonically, emotionally superior than any other album this year, hands down. 2) Dracula Zombie USA – S/T I am surprised this band hasn’t garnered more hype. 3) Block Party – Silent Alarm Poppy guilty pleasure of 2005. 4) My Morning Jacket – Z Color me amazed, I never expected an album like this from MMJ. 5) Bob Mould – Body of Song Welcome back to the world of rock, Bob. 6) M83 – Before the Dawn Heals Us Big sound that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. 7) Sun Kil Moon – Tiny Cities I wish I had Mark Kozelek’s voice. 8) Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – S/T Self-released band does good, thanks to mp3 blogs. 9) Okkervil River – Black Sheep Boy Indie Americana-rock at its finest. 10) Low – The Great Destroyer Legendary quiet band experiments with turning up the amps, blows my mind. And that is what the Two Gallants are, a guitarist and a drummer who create music that could be interpreted as folky punk Irish drinking songs for playing poker in a Midwestern mining town pub. Singer/guitarist Adam Stephenson and drummer Tyson Vogel complement each other nicely creating songs full of the blues and despair but dripping over the sides with a twinge hope, like all good songs are supposed to be. “My Madonna” is my favorite of the lot below: “I awake on the floor with my country at war and I wish I could care but my liver’s too sore. If liquor’s a lover you know I’m a whore.” : Train That Stole My Man : Nothing To You : My Madonna Posted by Jason : Comment * * * Mothers Against Noise · 15 days ago Regardless of whether or not this is a hoax, Mothers Against Noise is one of the funniest websites I have seen in ages. From their website, noise music embraces: 1. Rebellion 2. Violence 3. Nihilism 4. Escapism 5. Drugs / Alcoholism 6. Perversion 7. Dissonant / Offensive Sound 8. Paranormal / Occult Activities 9. Anti-God / Anti-Authority 10. Cult-like Organization And so does much of the music here. So if you like one or more of the 10 characteristics of noise, keep reading! via mefi Posted by Jason : Comment [4] * * * Podcast #2 · 17 days ago I just returned home this evening from attending various holiday festivities with my families. Helped with the likes of members of the Decemberists, Norfolk & Western, and even Desert City Soundtrack, Short evokes a modern country and alt-country feel while presenting a modern and unique vocal-driven sound. On her debut, Oh Say Little Dogies, Why? , Short used mostly her voice and acoustic guitar, writing pleasant ballads in the style of Lucinda Williams, but on her newest release and first on Hush Records , she has other musicians filling out her sound with light drums, strings, horns, and more. Still, the focus is on acoustic guitar and Short’s voice, which, with echoey production, brings to mind Kristen Hersh and even Tonya Donnelly, not in style but in tone and approach. It gives the songs a more pressing and emotive flair. Short’s songs are simple in structure but sweet and heartfelt, possessing the storytelling quality true country and folk are known for. She has a lovely voice, and with superb production qualities, her newest release, Captain Wild Horse (Rides the Heart of Tomorrow) , is a fine effort that maintains country sensibilities while surely appealing to more diverse fans. The band recently released a split single with the band Tessitura, which is the solo project of their rhythm guitarist Jon Williams. The album is available via the Vibrating Needle Recording Collective . Tessiture also has a album available for download here . The bands are trying to let everyone know that “free music doesn’t have to suck.” These two bands sure make a strong case for that statement. Download that split single below. : Winter Song (TSF) : You (TSF) : Haze (Tessitura) : Nervous (Tessitura) Posted by Jason : Comment * * *
