I had come from Bulgaria and didn't want to buy Rumenian currency for just one day. That's why, I went straight to the airport where I arrived around 6pm, facing 12 hours to kill! Although it's a non-smoking airport, no one seems to care and people where just having their cigarettes all over the place. On the ground floor, there is an information desk, a newsagent, a change office, a fast food restaurant and a bar, the latter staying open all night! Upstairs, there is a prayer room, another bar a self service restaurant (they serve pizzas) and a hairdressers. They all accept Euros and American Dollars on condition that they have enough change. Both floors have toilets which are pretty clean. There are armchairs with little tables attached to them. Heating is swithched on at 8pm so you won't get cold. Cleaning happens at night so don't be surprised if suddenly a noisy vacuumcleaner awakens you. Not one moment did I feel unsafe though.I was a bit dissapointed that they wouldn't let me (or anybody else) into the boarding area so there were quite a few people sleeping around, mainly on the ground floor. You are aloud into the boarding area two and a half hours before your flight. Shops in the boarding area start opening between 5 and 6am. There are a few nice looking gift shops, a newsagent/bookstore and a bar. To anyone thinking to spend the night at this airport, I would suggest to go to the first floor and try to make yourself comfortoble on the armchairs. Enjoy your travels." Added16 OCT 2004 BUCHAREST, Romania (Contributed by J.P. van Bolhuis ) "I was there waiting for my connecting flight to Amsterdam. Had arrived at 2.00 AM and would leave at 7.00 AM. Upon arrival there were no open pubs/restaurants. The seats had armrests and the floor was marble. The marble was clean, so i had no problems sleeping on it. As for security, no problems, it did feel safe, but then I was in the boarding area. " BUCHAREST, Romania (Contributed by Andre Bossen ) "It was in October and November 2000 that I had to spend a night on Bucharest Ottopeni Airport. Coming from Amsterdam, going to Cairo and vice versa. The airport itself is nothing special though it is clean. This is very fortunate because the seats on the airport have armrests, making it necessary to sleep on the floor. There is one other option. The seats have small tables attached to them so if they are re-arranged, the tables make (sort of) small plateaus on which you can sleep. The floor still is your best option though. The heating works and is turned quite high, so do not fear of being cold. In all, I had a good couple of hours of sleep. Apart from some small shops, that are rather expensive, there is nothing there so bring you own food, drink and entertainment. I would give Bucharest international airport a 6+ due to the little entertainment it offers. " RAILWAY STATION BUCHAREST (Train Station), Romania (Contributed by DAMO) "May 2003 - What a place! Arrived here from Galati, Romania to catch atrain the next morning to Belgrade, Serbia. I dont know where to start! A fewyears ago this station was the epicentre for every roaming scumbag immaginable. The situation seems to have improved as these black clad security type guys nowloiter around the entrances extracting bribes. Apparently you do have to pay toenter the station if you are not travelling, but even if you have a ticket foronward travel the next morning these guys still want cash. Fair enough it wasonly about 1 which is whore of a cheaper than any hotel in Bucharest. There isa cafe open all night which is dirt cheap but dirt dirty. The seats in the"First Class" waiting room look like police cell benches, wooden andvery uncomfortable, be prepared to share with whole families of Gypsies and gluesniffers. On a final note avoid the toilets at all costs!!! I dont knowabout the ladies but the gents is the worse I have ever encountered. At thebottom of a stairwell you will find its flooded to ankle height with browncolured water. Floating articles included turds, condoms, and discarded porno mags. The worse thing though is that they have the cheek to charge to use thishellhole. During the day if you need to go visit Mcdonalds nearby!" Added 06 FEB 04 BUCHAREST (Train Station), Romania (Contributed by Anon) "July 1995 - My train to Bulgaria was delayed coming from Russia until 4 am, and we had to spend the time in Bucharest station. I don't know if things have changed in the last few years, but there was nowhere under $50 per night to stay in the town. Bucharest station seems to get all the local scum turning up even at 2 in the morning. It is definitely to be avoided, and watch your stuff like a hawk." BUCHAREST (Railway Station), Romania (Contributed by Anon) "Has improved a lot in the last 5 years. Entrance to the railway station is limited strictly to those who can show they have a ticket for a train, so you don't get all the scum hanging around. Also has a few decent shops selling real food, should you get hungry in the night." BUCHAREST (Train Station), Romania (Contributed by Erik Bielefeldt) "Train station in Bulgaria, near the Turkish border. I spent the night at some station in the middle of nowhere waiting for a connecting train (September 97). The whole experience was very surreal--here I was in some small station in the middle of the night, but the place was full of people. It seemed the whole town had a train to catch at 3am or something. Well, I didn't sleep well because I was quite nervous of losing my possessions. On the other hand, I don't think the town had a hotel, and I was probably safer in the station than wandering around trying to find one. MySpace layout [WIP] Update
.derkilicious | New MySpace layout [WIP] .derkilicious Blog The Dirt Wordpress Search « links for 2005-10-29 | Home | Beer afficiandos rejoice and share » New MySpace layout [WIP] Update 11/11: Part 1: MySpace DIV overlay [The base] Update 11/02: MySpace profile at 90% Update 10/30: I’ve successfully replaced the default MySpace profile. I have yet to decide what to do with the comments field. I thought about having the comments displayed blogroll-like down the sidebar with 48 x 48 pixel icons for users. Still mulling over the idea. I plan on releasing the code and stylesheet as soon as I am content with the overall design. Obvious inspiration for colors ala Flock with a blog-esque layout. I’ve done it again. I’ve discovered that MySpace is becoming an ever present topic on this blog. It’s not that I enjoy the service, or that I make use of the service to “network” with other individuals. I just hate the default profiles . So, I’ve started work on the above profile replacement. That’s the actual profile I plan on importing into MySpace. It’s a working page complete with the contacts list and basic MySpace functionality. A few DIV’s here, a little CSS there, and the obvious blue inspiration coming from Flock. I haven’t yet decided if I plan on adding the ‘comments’ field to the bottom of the page. I must admit that this is the first layout that I’ve started from scratch. That means made up classes and an unorganized HTML document. Who really cares though right? Tags: myspace , div+overlay , css , profile , customize -- Trackbacks & Pingbacks Whale Salad trackbacked on October 31, 2005, 12:13 am Comments 1 Jeremy Botter says: That’s a killer layout. I want it. I’ll make changes to the colors and whatnot, but I mostly want to see how you did it. Posted October 30, 2005, 3:41 pm 2 William says: It looks like you fixed it up. How did you fix it? Posted October 31, 2005, 4:31 pm 3 .derek says: Apparently MySpace was stripping any ‘#’s’ out and replacing them with ‘..’ which fudged up the entire layout. The divs themself were correct. Without styling though the whole thing was a giant mess. I had to go through each line to delete the ..’s. Posted November 1, 2005, 7:52 am 4 Sarah says: I’ve just started messing around with myspace myself….it’s kind of annoying! But I guess it makes blogging more accessible to the kids…. Nice site you have here….I’m going to blogroll you! Posted November 1, 2005, 6:39 pm 5 .derek says: I wouldn’t say MySpace is a ‘blogging’ platform. I think the blogs feature was added after the service gained widespread use. During the day if you need to go visit Mcdonalds nearby!" I don't know if things have changed in the last few years, but there was nowhere under $50 per night to stay in the town.
