Now that millions have made MySpace their home for just about everything, many worried the acquisition by News Corp would changed things. Not so promised MySpace founders but alas they have. Many MySpace members link to videos on YouTube and, apparently, News Corp-owned MySpace doesn't like the practice. According to the Blog Herald , MySpace has been deleting any and all reference to YouTube from profiles. There's even a MySpace group fighting the censorship. MySpace came out of nowhere as the single most popular place to go for...well...anything. It can disappear just as quickly and be replaced by another. 23-Dec-05 »File under: Trends and Culture Comment (5) -- Subscribe to Adrants andreceive the daily contents of this site in your Inbox each business day. Posted by: Esoos Bobnar on December 24, 2005 02:57 AM Calm down. You must not use MySpace much, huh AdRants? Otherwise, you'd know a little more about what's going on, and wouldn't get all hysterical about sensationalizing this. This probably only means that MySpace is preparing its own upload-your-videos-of-high-school-girl-fights-and-Asian-teens-signing-karaoke service. Or, MySpace has finally gotten enough complaints about morons who link to auto-play videos on their profiles - which slows down everything on MySpace for everyone. Get the full story before you go crying "apocalypse" already. Posted by: well, duh on December 25, 2005 03:42 PM Calm down. You must not use Adrants much, huh Well Duh? We're all about sensationalizing the mundane, the idiotic, the irrelevant. Do you actually think MySpace would tell any reporter, blogger or anyone if they had plans in the works to launch their own video upload service? Of course not. Did we ask MySpace? Of course not? That's for "real" journalists, right? Us bloggers are, according to BrandWeek, just a bunch of losers regurgitating other's news. Besides anything as oh-so-hip or cool or whatever as MySpace is or ever was/will be never lasts. If this non-news YouTube thing doesn't alter the landscape, something ultimately will. And when that happens, we can proudly say, "You heard it here first!" :-) Now we've revealed our editorial strategy to all. Posted by: Steve Hall on December 26, 2005 01:30 PM I assume they are developing their own player so they can sell advertising and make some money off of the millions of idiots who use that piece of shit site. I can't get the player to recognize my playlist - To make sure I'm not a dumbass I copied his code and put it on my MySpace... It worked perfectly. I replaced the URL of the playlist with the URL of mine - It showed up but only had one song - Linkin Park... I don't even have Linkin Park in my playlist.xml list. Here is my playlist.xml file - http://gabeshedd.com/myspace/music/playlist.xml I opened both this person's and mine in two seperate tabs and viewed them side by side. Completely identical. I am honestly mind-blown by this... Help. Please. All files are mp3 or WMA .... EDIT-> Okay... I read some other threads on this topic (I didn't think to search for Linkin Park at first) - I uploaded the playlist.xml file to a different server... Still gives me that Linkin Park song. I'm so insanely confused. Where does it get Linkin Park from? There's no link to another playist.. In the past couple of weeks thier have been several scandals if you will, each one bringing to light the almost distorted scence of morality preasent on the YULA boys campus (The 9th grade cheating incident comes to mind). However today I would like to discuss an incident i witnessed first hand. During Mincha time I witnessed torture in the worst degree. I witnessed the tears of the tortured, and i saw the smile on the face of the tourcheres. Both were equally as haunting. However I feel I may be getting ahead of myself, so allow me to start from the begining. After second mod i headed over to the blue picnic tabels near the lunch room to quickly complete that days math home work. As you very well know after 2nd mod was mincha...no i was not intentionally ditching mincha for I planned to go in to the beis midrash as soon as i completed my math homework, however what i saw i felt i needed to watch, if not out of disgust, then in order to relate the occurences over to the YULA student body. As I was sitting doing my homework, I overheard two sophmores decide that now would be a good time to go "trash a freshman" (make note that these kids are probably two of the most obese kids in the school...hence insecurities) They started with one freshman...it was just them, i didn't find it funny, but what ever he didn't really fit in the trash can and he didnt seem to get hurt. However, as word spread around the yard that people were trashing freshman it was as if every insecure kid in the school came out of hiding for the event. Now all trashing of freshman i feel is bordering on some sort of evil...but allow me to tell you what happened to the last freshy they trashed... I don't know the freshman well, acttualy I really don't know him at all. He contributed to the litterary journal, and he seems to be a nice kid. I have heard that the kids parents are divorced, but this is besides the fact...the point is he is a kid who never did anything to anyone... This freshman is heading towards the sephardi beit midrash to daven, when the mob (litterlly 20 people) pick him up and begin to drag him. Now he resists, everyone just laughs. LAUGHTER!!!!!! Has anyone ever heard of a little town called Littelon Colorado?!?!?!?! I mean come on!!!!!! He continues to scream for them to let him go, but they refuse, then they place him in the trash can, head first. Kids then begin punching him, and kicking the trash can. I hear, "He probably lives there anyway." Punching, taungting, kicking etc. Once the kid finnaly manages to get himself out of the trash can I see tears in his eyes. People are still pushing him, and laughing, some people even try to stick him back into the trash can. Everyone around me, even those who didn't participate admit that it was pretty funny. AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WITH DECENT MORALS???????? AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO SEES THIS HAZING AS CRUEL AND EVIL????? | -- 1.04.2006 all my love's in vain this is the blog. so a-motivated for this piece of shit anymore. Long before the advent of Christianity, plants and trees that remained green all year had a special meaning for people in the winter. Just as people today decorate their homes during the festive season with pine, spruce, and fir trees, ancient peoples hung evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. In many countries it was believed that evergreens would keep away witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness. In the Northern hemisphere, the shortest day and longest night of the year falls on December 21 or December 22 and is called the winter solstice. Many ancient people believed that the sun was a god and that winter came every year because the sun god had become sick and weak. They celebrated the solstice because it meant that at last the sun god would begin to get well. Evergreen boughs reminded them of all the green plants that would grow again when the sun god was strong and summer would return. The ancient Egyptians worshipped a god called Ra, who had the head of a hawk and wore the sun as a blazing disk in his crown. At the solstice, when Ra began to recover from the illness, the Egyptians filled their homes with green palm rushes which symbolized for them the triumph of life over death. Early Romans marked the solstice with a feast called the Saturnalia in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture. The Romans knew that the solstice meant that soon farms and orchards would be green and fruitful. To mark the occasion, they decorated their homes and temples with evergreen boughs. In Northern Europe the mysterious Druids, the priests of the ancient Celts, also decorated their temples with evergreen boughs as a symbol of everlasting life. The fierce Vikings in Scandinavia thought that evergreens were the special plant of the sun god, Balder. Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes. Some built Christmas pyramids of wood and decorated them with evergreens and candles if wood was scarce. It is a widely held belief that Martin Luther, the 16th-century Protestant reformer, first added lighted candles to a tree. Walking toward his home one winter evening, composing a sermon, he was awed by the brilliance of stars twinkling amidst evergreens. To recapture the scene for his family, he erected a tree in the main room and wired its branches with lighted candles. Most 19th-century Americans found Christmas trees an oddity. The first record of one being on display was in the 1830s by the German settlers of Pennsylvania, although trees had been a tradition in many German homes much earlier. The Pennsylvania German settlements had community trees as early as 1747. But, as late as the 1840s Christmas trees were seen as pagan symbols and not accepted by most Americans. It is not surprising that, like many other festive Christmas customs, the tree was adopted so late in America. To the New England Puritans, Christmas was sacred. The pilgrims's second governor, William Bradford, wrote that he tried hard to stamp out "pagan mockery" of the observance, penalizing any frivolity. The influential Oliver Cromwell preached against "the heathen traditions" of Christmas carols, decorated trees, and any joyful expression that desecrated "that sacred event." In 1659, the General Court of Massachusetts enacted a law making any observance of December 25 (other than a church service) a penal offense; people were fined for hanging decorations. That stern solemnity continued until the 19th century, when the influx of German and Irish immigrants undermined the Puritan legacy. In 1846, the popular royals, Queen Victoria and her German Prince, Albert, were sketched in the Illustrated London News standing with their children around a Christmas tree. Unlike the previous royal family, Victoria was very popular with her subjects, and what was done at court immediately became fashionable—not only in Britain, but with fashion-conscious East Coast American Society. The Christmas tree had arrived. By the 1890s Christmas ornaments were arriving from Germany and Christmas tree popularity was on the rise around the U.S. It was noted that Europeans used small trees about four feet in height, while Americans liked their Christmas trees to reach from floor to ceiling. The early 20th century saw Americans decorating their trees mainly with homemade ornaments, while the German-American sect continued to use apples, nuts, and marzipan cookies. Popcorn joined in after being dyed bright colors and interlaced with berries and nuts. Electricity brought about Christmas lights, making it possible for Christmas trees to glow for days on end. With this, Christmas trees began to appear in town squares across the country and having a Christmas tree in the home became an American tradition. | -- 12.22.2005 aqua seafoam shame huge swell yesterday. i was at la jolla cove mid-afternoon to gawk and take pictures. the cove isn't a surf break, except when the waves are at least 15 feet, so when it does break it's a big deal 'round these parts. i ran into my buddy Pat, the madman ex-lifeguard and current firefighter in LA, and he had already broken one board and lost the fin off another. he was looking for a skag so he could head back out. i wanted to womp it and might have been able to in my former healthy youth but those monsters surely would've drowned me now. you could smell the spray driving up la jolla parkway, and prospect was all misty. beautiful day. . . this weeks flag: Burkina Faso , formerly Upper Volta. it's a landlocked country in Western Africa, slightly larger than Colorado, that achieved independence from France in 1960. | -- 12.21.2005 i ain't talking about no paper cup, i mean a glass of beer five Seahawks made the Pro Bowl.
